The Iowa softball team completed its 48th season in 2025.

THIS SEASON

The Iowa softball team completed its 48th season in 2025. The Hawkeyes finished sixth in the Big Ten after a last place finish in 2024. Iowa's resume included two ranked wins at home over #5 UCLA, 7-4, and over #20 Nebraska, 5-2. Iowa swept four Big Ten series over Indiana, Maryland, Penn State and Rutgers. Post season accolades for the Hawkeyes include Big Ten honors for Jena Young (first team and all-defensive), Jalen Adams (second team), and Tatianna Roman (sportsmanship). Both Young and Adams were named to the NFCA Midwest All-Region Second Team.

  • The Rutgers series was Iowa’s fourth straight Big Ten series win, the longest streak since 2012 (5)*
  • Five Big Ten series wins is the most in a season since 2012 (6)*
  • Iowa’s final win against Rutgers was their 15th Big Ten win of the season, the most since 2012 (16)*
  • Iowa’s final win against Rutgers was the 11th shutout win of the season, the most since 2012
  • Adams is currently up to 25 wins this season, the most for a Hawkeye pitcher since 2009 (Brittany Weil, 26)

NEW ERA OF IOWA SOFTBALL

Former Hawkeye student-athlete and assistant coach Stacy May-Johnson was named the sixth head coach in program history on May 28.

STATISTICAL LEADERS

  • Sophomore infielder Jena Young finished the season leading the team in hitting (.359).
  • Outfielders Tory Bennett and Tatianna Roman each finished the season with a perfect fielding percentage. Roman contributed 45 putouts and Bennett has contributed 86 on the year.
  • Jalen Adams finished leading the pitchers with 198.2 innings pitched and 130 strikeouts.

B1G AWARDS FOR BIG PLAYERS

Three Hawkeyes were recognized with conference honors:

  • Sophomore infielder Jena Young was named first team and all-defensive team
  • Junior RHP Jalen Adams was named second team
  • Senior outfielder Tatianna Roman was the sportsmanship honoree

Young is the first Hawkeye to receive back-to-back first team honors since Megan Blank in 2013-14. This is the first time since 2016-2017 that Iowa has had an all-defensive honoree in back-to-back season.

IN THE RECORD BOOKS

  • Berry ranks 10th for home runs in a single season at Iowa with nine
  • Allyssa Ramos ranks third at Iowa in a season with 14 hit by pitches
  • Young is tied for 14th at Iowa in a season with 43 runs scored this season
  • Iowa finished with 40 errors to record the lowest error total in program history (44)
  • The Hawkeyes set a new program record for walks in a season with 216, breaking the previous record of 180 in 2015

BEST OF THE MIDWEST

Two Hawkeyes were named to the NFCA Midwest All-Region Second Team; Adams and Young.

IN THE B1G LEAGUES

  • Redshirt junior catcher Desiree Rivera finished first in the conference and is ranked 18th nationally in runners caught stealing with 15 runners caught.
  • Junior centerfielder Tory Bennett finished on top of the Big Ten in sacrifice bunts per game (.32) and ranked 5th nationally.
  • Junior RHP Jalen Adams finished second in the conference and 13th nationally in complete games (20). Adams ended third in the Big Ten and eighth nationally in wins (25). Adams was second in the conference in innings pitched (198.2), and 17th nationally.

IN SEASON HONORS

  • Sophomore infielder Soo-Jin Berry was named one of Softball America's Stars of the Week of 3/24 after her standout game in Iowa's upset against then No. 5/6 UCLA. Berry hit two home runs in the game, the first muti-home run game of her career.
  • Senior Hannah Lindsay was named the Big Ten Co-Player of the week on February 17th. She hit .667 in four-games at the Lion Invitational at East Texas A&M with 16 RBIs and three home runs.

STARTING STREAKS

Two Hawkeyes started all 53 games this season; Jena Young in the middle infield, and Tory Bennett in center field.

PLAYING THE BEST

The Hawkeyes faced seven teams in 2025 that made it to the NCAA Tournament; Alabama, Arkansas, Indiana, Nebraska, Tennessee, Texas Tech and UCLA. Six of the seven teams made it to Super Regionals and three teams made it to WCWS.

Six of the seven teams are all ranked in the final top-25 polls.

GOODBYE TO THE CLASS OF 2025

Iowa graduated five seniors following the 2025 season. Three Hawkeyes spent all four seasons in the black and gold; Iowa natives Rylie Moss and Haley Downe, as well as California native Devyn Greer. Two senior transfers obtained their degrees from Iowa, Tatianna Roman who spent her freshman season at Alabama A&M, and Hannah Lindsay who spent her first two seasons at New Mexico State.
