Hawkeyes Crown Six Champions at Luther Hill Open

Indianola, Iowa – The second-ranked University of Iowa women’s wrestling team competed at the Luther Hill Open on Sunday. Six Hawkeyes won titles, while 11 wrestlers recorded top-three finishes. 

At 103 pounds, Maddie Nieuwenhuis made her collegiate debut with a title, defeating Sienna Caruso of Lindenwood in a 12-2 technical fall. Nieuwenhuis also notched three dominant technical falls on her way to the championship match. 

Isabella Gonzales defeated Isabel Kaplan (Simpson) by fall to win at 110 pounds. She posted three technical falls and a 14-second pin en route to the title. 

At 124 pounds, Harlee Hiller pinned four straight opponents to take the title. She beat Morgan Maschmann of Lindenwood by fall in the championship bout. 

In the 131-pound weight class, Emily Frost secured a first-place finish with a technical fall over Gabriella Gomez. Frost also posted two technical falls and a decision while making her way through the bracket. 

No. 2 Lilly Luft took first place at 138 pounds. Luft recorded a first-period pin over Brooklyn Perez before receiving two forfeits to capture the title. 

Naomi Simon clinched the 180-pound title with a decisive technical fall over Isabella Renfro (Fort Hays State). Simon defeated fellow Hawkeye Brooklyn Hays in her semifinal matchup.
