Jon Budmayr was elevated to wide receivers coach in February, 2024, after serving as the senior special assistant to the head coach in 2023 and an offensive analyst in 2022.
In 2023, the Hawkeyes won 10 games, including their final four, to capture the Big Ten West Division. Iowa advanced to another January bowl game (Citrus) and finished the season ranked No. 24.
In his first season at Iowa the Hawkeyes won eight contests in 2022, concluding the season with a 21-0 win over Kentucky in the Music City Bowl and wins in five of its final six games.
Budmayr joined the Iowa staff from Colorado State, where he served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2021.
Budmayr spent six seasons at Wisconsin, including the final three as quarterbacks coach. He also served as a quality control assistant (2016-17) and graduate assistant (2015) with the Badgers.
Under Budmayr’s direction, Badger quarterbacks set Wisconsin program records, including a school-record 236 completions by Jack Coan in 2019. Coan’s 2019 season also included the third-most passing yards in a season in Wisconsin history (2,727), while his 69.6 percent completion rate also ranked third in school history and was No. 7 nationally that year.
A native of Woodstock, Illinois, Budmayr was also integral in the recruitment and development of Graham Mertz, one of the highest rated quarterbacks in Wisconsin history. In his first career start at Illinois in 2020, Mertz was 20-of-21 (95.2%) for 248 yards and five touchdowns.
