IOWA CITY, IA – The Iowa women’s tennis team stood strong, but finally fell to No. 45 Denver, 5-2, Sunday afternoon. The Hawkeyes took three singles matches into a third set and had four tiebreakers.
Hillary Mintz and Meg Racette upset the 30th-ranked doubles team of Yanick Dullens and Suzana Maksovic, 9-8 (7-5), at the No. 1 position. Mintz also won her singles match at the No. 2 spot against Maksovic, coming from behind, 2-6, 7-6, 6-1. Anastasia Zhukova defeated Barbara Kourim at the No. 3 position, 6-0, 6-3.
Hilary Tyler and Milica Veselinovic were down 6-1 at No. 3 doubles, before charging back on a 4-1 run. The duo finally lost the match, 8-5. Racette lost a tough battle in her first set against 98th-ranked Dullens before falling, 7-6 (8-6), 6-4.
The Hawkeyes will compete next Friday, February 4 at Nebraska.
