Iowa Completes Day One At Hurricane Invite

CORAL GABLES, FL – The Iowa women’s tennis team completed its first day of competition at the Miami Hurricane Fall Invitational today. Iowa won three doubles matches and one singles match in today’s competition.

Hillary Mintz defeated Katherine Bartnik of Florida Atlantic University, 6-3, 6-0, in Iowa’s only singles win of the day. Mili Veselinovic was upset by #71 Audrey Banada of Miami, 6-4, 6-0.

In doubles competition, Iowa’s Mili Veselinovic and Merel Beelen won both of their matches, first defeating Marijana Cutuk and Priscilla Castillo of Florida International, 8-5. Veselinovic and Beelen then went on to defeat Emily Mowery (Miami), and Cathy Gerber (Clemson), 8-5.

In other doubles competition, Hillary Mintz and Kayla Berry defeated Claudia Kecht and Elodie Wendling of Florida Atlantic, 8-5.

Iowa will continue competition tomorrow at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center on the University of Miami campus.
