Bebe Shatters School Record at Larry Wieczorek Invitational

IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa track and field wrapped up the Larry Wieczorek Invitational on Saturday evening. The Hawkeye women earned the team title with 98 points. The men’s team finished third overall with 53.5 points.

Junior Myreanna Bebe broke the school record in the Hawkeye Pro women’s 60-meter hurdles to highlight the day, registering a speedy time of 8.11 – sixth in the NCAA this season. Bebe shattered the previous record set in 2009 by Karessa Farley (8.21) and improved on her previous best, which was set last weekend at the Hawkeye Invitational (8.22).

“That’s a record we’ve been wanting to take down for awhile,” Coach Woody said of Bebe’s performance. “Excited for Myreanna and I think that’s just scratching the surface of where she is headed. I think she can break eight flat.”

Junior Alli Bookin-Nosbisch also etched her name in the Hawkeye history books, improving her personal best with a 2:06.59 in the Hawkeye Pro women’s 800-meter event and positioning herself fourth on Iowa’s top 10 list.

The day began with the women’s shot put, where freshman Wisdom Williams took the crown with a personal-best throw of 15.19 meters (49’ 10”). Williams’ mark ranks 10th all-time at Iowa. Senior Jamie Kofron took bronze with a toss of 14.44 meters (47’ 4.50”). The men’s shot put followed with senior Jordan Johnson taking third place after setting and individual record with a 17.55-meter throw (57’ 7”).

Freshmen Natalie Harris and Ellie Rickertsen kicked off the running events, qualifying for the women’s 60-meter hurdle finals with times of 8.88 and 8.93, respectively. Harris earned silver in the finals, sprinting to a personal best time of 8.74, and Rickertsen clocked her personal best in the prelim. In the men’s 60-meter prelims, juniors Damoy Allen (6.82) and Khullen Jefferson (6.83) raced by the competition in their respective heats to automatically qualify for the finals. Allen took fourth in the finals, clocking a time of 6.85.

Senior LaSarah Hargrove and sophomore Lia Love advanced in the women’s Hawkeye Pro 60-meter with respective times of 7.35 and 7.44 in the prelims. Hargrove finished fifth (7.36), while Love crossed the line in eighth (7.46) in the finals.

The night was capped off by the 4×400-meter relays, beginning with the women’s Hawkeye Pro event. The Iowa quartet of freshman Audrey Biermann, junior Paige Magee, redshirt freshman Chloe Larsen, and freshman Gabby Cortez finished fourth with a season-best mark of 3:37.07. In the men’s edition, Iowa claimed third behind seniors DeAndre Stapleton Jr. and Julien Gillum and juniors Spencer Gudgel and Drake Woody, registering a season-best time of 3:10.74.
