MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Iowa women’s tennis team kicked off day one of the ITA Central Regionals on Wednesday at the Leftwich Tennis Center with Jessica Matthews and Nikita Vishwase competing in the qualifying draw.
In the Round of 64, Matthews earned a solid victory over South Dakota’s Sorcha Caves, winning 6-3, 6-4. Vishwase also advanced, defeating Sarah Millard of Arkansas State, 2-6, 6-1, 6-2.
In the Round of 32, Vishwase continued her momentum with a hard-fought win over Grace O’Donnell of Arkansas, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4, earning a spot in the main draw. Matthews, however, fell to Giorgia Roselli of Wichita State, 6-4, 6-0.
The Hawkeyes will continue competition in the main draw singles and doubles tomorrow, beginning at noon (CT).
