ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – University of Iowa track and field sprinter Austin Kresley rose to third on Iowa’s all-time list in the 200 meters with a 20.73 on day one of the New Mexico Collegiate Classic on Friday night.

“I thought we competed well today, especially in the 200,” Director of Track and Field Joey Woody said. “We made some big improvements from two weeks ago and had some nice indoor personal bests from Alex Edison and Austin Kresley. I thought Lia and Holly both ran really well, performing just off of their personal bests. I think they are building towards some even bigger breakthroughs these next few weeks.”

At this weekend’s premier meet in the country, the Hawkeyes opened competition against a loaded field that featured 15 Division I programs ranked in the USTFCCCA top 25.

Kresley highlighted the action in New Mexico, updating Iowa’s all-time best list with his performance in the 200-meter invite. Kresley cruised to a career-best 20.73. His time ranks third all-time at Iowa, improving on his previous record of 20.87, which had ranked sixth.

Two Hawkeyes set personal bests in the 200 meters. Junior Jaylin Holmes finished in 21.43, a career best. On the women’s side, junior Alexandria Edison clocked in at 23.73, also a personal record.

In the 600 meters, Hawkeye freshman Landon Fontenot and sophomore Josh Pugh finished third and fourth, respectively. Sophomore Ali Franden secured a personal best of 1:32.66, finishing sixth. Teammates Arianna Williams, Grace Bookin-Nosbisch, and Jaiden Itson rounded out the top ten.

Up Next: The Hawkeyes continue competition at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic, while the throws and distance groups begin action at the Iowa State Classic in Ames.
