Hawkeyes Dominate Day 2 at Kansas Double Duel

Iowa rowing won six of its seven races Saturday, against San Diego, at the Kansas Double Duel.

KANSAS CITY, Kansas – The University of Iowa rowing team finished up the Kansas Double Duel with six wins against San Diego.

The Hawkeyes competed in all seven boat classes, 1V8, 2V8, 3V8, 4V8, 1V4, 2V4, and 3V4. The duel hosted by Kansas had Minnesota and San Diego in attendance.

The Hawkeyes return to action next weekend in Sarasota for the Big Ten Invitational.

FINISHES
Iowa led start to finish, taking a half a boat length lead at the 500-meter mark. The Hawkeyes found an open water lead by the 1000-meter mark and never gave it up. They pushed hard through the finish extending their lead.

Both teams remained tight through the first 500-meters, with Iowa finding seats advantage over the Toreros. At the 1000-meter mark, Iowa surged to an open water lead over San Diego, not letting up until they crossed the finish line.

The Hawkeyes got up a few seats on San Diego in the opening meters of the race. Iowa remained consistent, slowly widening their lead in the middle meters of the race. With a final hard push, the Hawkeyes finished with a comfortable lead over the Toreros.

Choppy water at the start kept all teams together through the first 750-meters of the race. Iowa led the charge at the 1000-meter mark, finding separation from Minnesota and Kansas. The Hawkeyes stayed together finding an open water lead over Minnesota at the 1500-meter mark, and the Gophers were unable to close this distance into the finish line.

San Diego got out to an early lead over the Hawkeyes in the first 500-meters. Iowa fought back, to catch and overtake San Diego in the middle meters of the race. With a hard push in the final 500-meters of the race, Iowa held an open water lead across the finish line.

A strong pull from the start gave the Hawkeyes an early seat lead on San Diego. Iowa did not give up this lead, finding open water separation in the middle meters. A final push at the end gave the Hawkeyes even more separation at the finish.

Iowa stayed connected to Minnesota through the first half of the race. The young Hawkeyes fought through the finish, surging with a final push in the last 500-meters of the race.
