WALNUT, Calif. – The University of Iowa track and field team wrapped up day one of competition at the Bryan Clay Invitational and Mt. Sac Relays. Freshman Luke Knepp and senior Yohana Yual made updates to the all-time list in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase.
“The steeplechasers got the weekend started in terrific fashion with Luke running the second fastest all-time at Iowa right behind All-American Nate Mylenek’s school record,” Director of Track and Field Joey Woody said. “That was a super impressive performance by Luke especially in his season opener. Yohana picked up another personal-best and fifth fastest time in Iowa school history.”
“Carlee and Sal had a very good day in the heptathlon and decathlon, recording multiple personal-bests. Sal had another big high jump personal-best which gave him some momentum heading into the 400 meters where he ran a good race to set him up well heading into day two. Carlee had some great marks right off her individual lifetime bests and finished the day strong in the 200 meters.”
At the Bryan Clay Invitational, freshman Luke Knepp and senior Yohana Yual made updates to the Iowa all-time list in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase. Knepp finished second with a personal-best time of 8:39.54, which now ranks second in program history and first in the Big Ten. Yual also recorded a lifetime best of 8:53.35, placing him fourth all-time at Iowa.

His day was highlighted by a first-place finish in the high jump, clearing a personal-best 2.01 meters.
