3 Hawkeyes Win Missouri Valley Open Titles

MARSHALL, Missouri — The University of Iowa women’s wrestling team crowned three champions at the Missouri Valley Open on Saturday. Nine Hawkeyes registered top-three finishes.

No. 3 ranked Karlee Brooks claimed the 131 pound title. She beat teammate Emily Frost in a close match, a 2-1 decision. She notched two technical falls and two decisions, as well as a pin, on her way to the finals. 

At 138 pounds, Skye Realin collected a pin, a decision, and two  technical falls on the way to the finals. In the championship match, Realin registered a 10-0 technical fall over Quincy's Julia Chambers. 

No. 2 ranked Reese Larramendy scored 49 points, only allowing two on her path to the finals. Once there, she won the final by default over Valerie Hamilton of Iowa Central CC. 

The Hawkeyes had six other wrestlers finish in the top three at their weights. They include: Sterling Dias (103, 3rd), No. 4 ranked Valarie Solorio (103, 2nd), No. 1 ranked Ava Bayless (110, 3rd), Nyla Valencia (110, 2nd), Emily Frost (131, 2nd), No. 2 ranked Jaycee Foeller (207, 2nd)

Naomi Simon competed unmatched at 180 pounds. The sophomore finished third, registering three falls, a technical fall, and a decision.
