9 Hawkeyes go Undefeated on  Day 1 of the Missouri Valley Open

MARSHALL, Missouri — The University of Iowa women’s wrestling team wrapped up day one of the Missouri Valley Open on Friday.  Nine Hawkeyes advanced to the semifinals. 

At 103, the Hawkeyes had two wrestlers go undefeated, Sterling Dias and No. 4  Valarie Solorio went a combined 7-0 and will move on to the semifinal rounds tomorrow. At 110, Nyla Valencia beat fellow Hawkeye and No. 1-ranked Ava Bayless to advance to the semifinal tomorrow. 

No. 4 Cali Leng went 4-0 on the day to make her way to the semifinals at 124 pounds. At 131, No. 3 Karlee Brooke and Emily Frost made their way to the next round after going a combined 8-0. 

Skye Realin notched three technical falls and a pin on her way to the semifinals. She will take on Samantha Barragan of Texas Wesleyan for a chance at the title at 138 pounds. No. 2 Reese Larramendy had four  wins by technical fall on her way to the semifinals at 145. 

No. 2 Jaycee Foeller collected two pins on her undefeated path to the semifinals at 207 pounds. 

The Hawkeyes had three ranked wins in day one, Nyla Valenica collected a win by decision over No. 1 Ava Bayless. Bella Williams pinned No. 2  Alexandra Szkotnicki (McKendree) in just 26 seconds in their bout at 131. No. 3  Karlee Brooks beat No. 10  Hania Halverson (Colorado Mesa) by decision. 

Naomi Simon wrestled unattached and went undefeated at 180 pounds, she will wrestle in the semifinals for a chance at the title.
