IOWA CITY, Iowa — The top-ranked University of Iowa women's wrestling team collected wins against No. 5-ranked Colorado Mesa and Oklahoma State (club team) in Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Sunday. In total, the Hawkeyes registered seven pins and nine technical falls.
#1 IOWA VS. #5 COLORADO MESA
Starting things off at 103 pounds, Rianne Murphy got the Hawkeyes on the board with an upset win by decision (6-2) over No. 8 Mia Zuniga. No. 2 Nyla Valencia got the pin over No. 9 Adriana Gomez at 110 pounds to secure back-to-back ranked wins for the Hawkeyes.
No. 4 Brianna Gonzalez got the pin at 117 pounds over Marjorie McDaniel. She was followed by No. 6 Cali Leng who secured the win with a 5-4 decision over Brooke McCurley. Junior Emily Frost worked her way to a comeback win at 131 pounds, securing the pin over Hania Halverson (3:00).
Making her season debut, Lilly Luft showed out with a 10-0 win by technical fall over Mollie Dare. A win by technical fall from No. 2 Reese Larramendy over No. 6 Gretchen Donally made it back-to-back technical falls for the Hawkeyes.
At 180 pounds, No. 1 ranked Kennedy Blades wasted no time getting the 10-0 technical fall over Kimberly Carlin. Then, a shut out 8-0 decision by No. 2 Jaycee Foeller over No. 4 Jayleen Sekona concluded the first dual.
#1 IOWA VS. OKLAHOMA STATE (CLUB TEAM)
The Hawkeyes started off the second dual with a win by Sterling Dias. The junior secured the 11-0 technical fall over Brooke Corrigan. Redshirt junior Ava Bayless ended her match in 32 seconds when she secured the 10-0 technical fall over Rilee Harrison. At 117 pounds, freshman Harlee Hiller got the win by fall over Jadyn Roller.
No. 1 ranked Karlee Brooks got the comeback win with a pin (4:32) in the second period over Kailey Benson. Ella Schmit followed, pinning Eleanor Dean in 1:28 for the win at 138 pounds. Picking up her second win of the night, Larramendy secured a technical fall over Reagan Knapp at 145 pounds.
Blades registered the 11-0 technical fall win nine seconds into the second period over Daniella Nugent. Then, in her season debut at 180 pounds, Katja Osteen locked in a 10-0 technical fall over Kaiulani Garcia. At 207 pounds, Libby Dix closed out the night for the Hawkeyes with a 10-0 win by technical fall over Cameron Massie.
