No. 1 Hawkeyes take down No. 9 Lehigh, Otterbein on Senior Night

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The top-ranked University of Iowa women's wrestling team collected a pair of wins on Sunday, defeating No. 9 Lehigh, 37-7, and Otterbein, 42-1. In total, the Hawkeyes registered four falls and 12 technical falls. 

#1 IOWA VS. #9 LEHIGH
Starting things off for the Hawkeyes, at 103 pounds Sterling Dias got the 11-0 technical fall over Hattie Mack. At 110 pounds, Ava Bayless fell to No. 5 Audrey Jimenez via a 10-0 technical fall. 

Freshman Harlee Hiller made her mark when she recorded the fall over No. 7 Abigail Cooper, giving her the upset win at 117 pounds. She was followed by No. 7 Cali Leng who notched the win over Alexa Cilliotta with an 11-0 technical fall. At 131 pounds, top-ranked Karlee Brooks fell to third-ranked Aubre Krazer by decision. 

At 138 pounds, Ella Schmit got the Hawkeyes back on track with a 10-0 technical fall over Kryssceah Ravenelle. She was followed up by top-ranked Kennedy Blades, who was able to secure the fall over Cameron Millsapps in just 48 seconds at 160 pounds. 

Top ranked Kylie Welker made her home debut a quick one with a 10-0 technical fall over Genevieve An. Closing out the first dual at 207 pounds, fifth-ranked Jaycee Foeller claimed the win via forfeit. 

#1 IOWA VS. OTTERBEIN
Top-ranked Valarie Solorio got the second dual started at 103 pounds with an 11-0 technical fall over Vita Savage. Then senior Ava Bayless notched the win at 110 pounds over Kellie Kennedy with a 10-0 technical fall. 

At 117 pounds, Emilie Gonzalez earned the win over Hailey Hatfield with an 10-0 technical fall. She was followed up by Isabella Marie Gonzales at 124 pounds, who locked in the win over Morgan Leonhardt with a 13-2 technical fall. 

At 131 pounds, Bella Williams got the 11-0 technical fall over Kira Cole. She was followed at 138 pounds by Ella Schmit who got her second win of the day with a 10-0 technical fall over Raegan Briggs. 

Top ranked Reese Larramendy got the win for the Hawkeyes at 145 pounds when she secured the 10-0 technical fall over Jada Weiss. She was followed up by No.1 Kennedy Blades, who got the win over Audrey Garcia with a 12-0 technical fall. 

After a win at 180 pounds by No.1 Kylie Welker via forfeit, senior Katja Osteen finished things off with a win over Marvet Hejazin by fall at 207 pounds.

“There was so much that went into getting this program off the ground, and the seniors were a big part of that. They all bring something to the team, both on and off the mat. It has been fun watching them grow as people. It's never easy for athletes to make that decision and choice of when their athletic career will come to an end, but you also don't want to hold them back from what they want to achieve outside the sport. We will always be grateful for what they have given to this program.”
