MINNEAPOLIS – University of Iowa swimming and diving began the Big Ten Championships on Wednesday afternoon at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center with two updates to the program’s record book.
The first day of competition saw just two events.
In the 200 medley relay, sophomore Hannah Cousins, junior Olivia Swalley, freshman Payton Flowers and sophomore Audrey Olen started the meet off strong. The quartet swam 1:39.02 to climb to second place in Iowa’s top-10 record book. The Hawkeyes placed 12th overall in the race.
Iowa’s 800 free relay team of juniors Jenna Kerr and Josie Hood, and sophomores Rachel Dildine and Audrey Olen clinched the seventh-fastest time in program history. Touching the wall in 7:12.78, the quartet placed 11th overall.

After day one, Iowa is in a tie for 11th place with 62 points.
UP NEXT: Iowa will return to the pool on Thursday morning. Prelims will begin at 10 a.m. with finals at 5:30 p.m. The events will be streamed on B1G+.
