DES MOINES, Iowa – University of Iowa track and field opened competition at the 2026 Drake Relays on Thursday evening.
Freshman Caila Lyons opened up the action at the Blue Oval with a 2:08.92 to win the women’s 800-meter title. Securing the bronze was junior Clare Kelly, crossing in 2:11.37.
Junior Ryan Johnson competed in the WACT hammer throw and finished fourth. Johnson’s top throw came on his fourth attempt, when he fired a 75.89-meter mark. Four of his five legal throws surpassed the 75-meter barrier. Johnson placed second among collegians.
In the WACT javelin, Lizzy Korczak placed 10th at 51.52 meters.
Back on the track, Kyle Montgomery picked up a lifetime best in the men’s 5,000 meters, finishing third in 14:39.50. In the women’s edition, Hillary Trainor grabbed seventh in 17:37.78. Owen Wolfe ran a 1:54.48 in the open 800.
