Lisa Cellucci enters her 27th season as a member of the University of Iowa field hockey team’s coaching staff in 2026-27 and her 13th as head coach. In her 26 years at Iowa, the Hawkeyes have compiled a 316-192 record and have been consistently ranked in the top 15 of the NFHCA national rankings. Cellucci was inducted into the Iowa Athletics Hall of Fame on Aug. 29, 2025 as part of the eight-member 2025 class. She is a three-time NFHCA All-American selection (1995,1996,1998), a three-time NFHCA West Region All-American. (1995, 1996, 1998) She is a four-time All-Big Ten honoree, earning first-team honors in 1995 and 1996 and second-team distinction in 1997 and 1998. She ranks as Iowa’s all-time leader in the program saves with 592.
In the past six seasons, the Hawkeyes have been a top 10 team in the national poll and the team ascended to the No. 1 spot in the rankings for four straight weeks in the 2023 season and seven straight weeks during the 2021 season. Iowa has been ranked in 93 consecutive polls dating back to the 2016 season.
Iowa has advanced to the Elite Eight in the last four out of five seasons, including a Final Four appearance in the spring of 2021.
Cellucci earned back-to-back-to-back Big Ten Coach of the Year honors (2019-21), becoming the first coach in Big Ten history to accomplish the feat. She and her staff have earned NFHCA Regional Coaching Staff of the Year honors twice.
In her ten years as head coach, Cellucci has coached:
• 22 NFHCA All-Americans
• 42 NFHCA All-West Regional selections
• 34 All-Big Ten selections, including 15 first-team honorees
• Three NFHCA West Region Players of the Year, two Big Ten Player of the Years, two Big Ten Defensive Player of the Years, three Big Ten Offensive Players of the Year and two Big Ten Freshman of the Year honorees
•125 Academic All-Big Ten selections, 88 NFHCA National Academic Squad honorees, 49 Big Ten Distinguished Scholars, and 78 NFHCA Scholars of Distinction selections.
Iowa finished the 2025 season with a 14-6 record. Iowa made its 30th NCAA Tournament appearance in program history — the most of any team as a member of the Big Ten Conference. Iowa finished the season ranked No. 9 in the NFHCA poll. The Hawkeyes finished 10th in the nation in goals per game (3.05) and scoring average (3.01) and 15th in the Big Ten in winning percentage (.700).
The Hawkeyes had two student athletes earn NFHCA All-America honors – junior Dionne van Aalsum earned her second career All-America nod, as she was named first team selection, and graduate student Fréderique van Cleef earned a second team nod, her first honor.
Iowa finished the 2024 season with a 9-9 record. The Hawkeyes finished fourth in the nation and second in the Big Ten in shutouts per game (.50) and second in the Big Ten and third in the nation in save percentage (.800). Iowa finished at No. 19 in the NFHCA poll. The Hawkeyes finished the 2023 season with a 13-6 overall record. Iowa made its sixth straight and 28th NCAA Tournament appearance in program history — the most of any team as a member of the Big Ten Conference. Iowa finished the season ranked No. 8 in the NFHCA poll.
The Hawkeyes had two student athletes earn NFHCA All-America honors – freshman Dionne van Aalsum earned her first career All-America nod, as she was named first team. Gibson earned second team and was named an All-American for a third straight season.
Three Hawkeyes earned NFHCA All-West Region selections in 2023. Gibson earned her fourth all-region accolade and was also named to the NFHCA Senior Team. Van Aalsum also earned first team honors while Sofie Stribos earned second-team. Three Hawkeyes — Van Aalsum (Freshman of the Year/First-Team), Gibson (First-Team), and Harper Dunne (Sportsmanship Award) earned Big Ten recognition for the 2023 season. 12 field hockey student athletes were named to fall academic all-Big Ten which senior Dunne finished with a 4.0 GPA.
