Brock Sherman is in his third year as an analyst with the University of Iowa football program, and in his sixth year with Iowa overall. Sherman served as a special teams assistant the previous three seasons.

The Hawkeyes won 18 games the last two seasons, including 10 and capturing the Big Ten West Division in 2023. Iowa earned berths to the Citrus and Music City bowls after the 2023 and 2024 seasons, respectively, and finished 2023 ranked No. 24 nationally. The Hawkeyes have been ranked in the final AP Top 25 five of the last seven seasons.

The Hawkeyes have earned 31 conference victories between 2020-24, matching its highest five-year conference win total in program history (1981-85 and 2019-23).

The Hawkeyes won 10 games in 2021, winning the Big Ten West Division title and advancing to the conference championship game. Iowa concluded the season with an appearance in the Citrus Bowl and was ranked 23rd in the final national ranking.

Following back-to-back narrow losses to open the 2020 season, Iowa won its final six games, all in Big Ten play. The Hawkeyes were ranked 15th in the final CFP rankings and Coaches Poll and 16th by the AP.

Iowa’s special teams consistently performs at a high level and 2024 was no different. All-American Kaden Wetjen led the country in combined return yardage, including returning two kicks for touchdowns in 2024. His elite performance garnered attention nationally as Wetjen was named the recipient of The Jet Award, which is presented annually to the top return specialist in college football. Rhys Dakin was a freshman All-American after averaging 44.1 yards per punt, while Drew Stevens broke the school record for most career field goals of 50+ yards, including a 53-yarder as time expired in the regular season finale versus border-rival Nebraska.

Iowa ranked first in the country in net punting (44.2), fourth in blocked punts (2) and eighth in kickoff return defense (15.6) in 2023. Punter Tory Taylor and return specialist Cooper DeJean were each recognized as unanimous consensus All-Americans. Taylor also became the first Hawkeye be voted the Ray Guy Award, which is presented to the nation’s top punter. Taylor set new NCAA single-season records in 2023 for most punt yards (4,479) and average yards per punt (minimum 75 punts -- 48.2). He also holds the NCAA’s highest punting average in a career (46.3).

In 2022, the Hawkeyes ranked among the top three in the conference in punt and kickoff returns, and punt and kickoff return defense. Iowa was third in the Big Ten and 15th nationally in net punting, while ranking second in the conference and 19th in the nation with three blocked kicks.

Iowa’s special teams in 2021, ranked among national leaders in kickoff return defense (14th), kickoff returns (17th) and punt return defense (18th). Charlie Jones was second in the nation in combined kick return yards and punter Tory Taylor was 12th in the country in punting average (46.1).

Iowa’s special teams played a key role in its 2020 success as well. Taylor was named the Big Ten Punter of the Year. He was named first-team Freshman All-America by the FWAA, was second-team All-America by The Athletic and was a semifinalist for the Ray Guy Award. Iowa led the Big Ten and ranked fifth nationally in net punting (42.9) in 2020, while also ranking fifth in the nation in kickoff return coverage (15.7).

Sherman played linebacker for Northwest Missouri State from 2011-15, earning All-MIAA accolades, serving as a team captain in 2015. He started 15 games and helped lead the Bearcats to a Division II national championship that season. During his time as an athlete, Sherman helped his team compile a 50-5 record with two national championships (2013, 2015) and three consecutive conference titles (2013-15).

Prior to joining the Hawkeye staff, Sherman was a defensive graduate assistant coach at New Mexico State for two seasons (2018-19), where he worked with linebackers.

Sherman was a defensive graduate assistant at Northwest Missouri State in 2016 and 2017, working with the defensive line, linebackers, and special teams.

Sherman earned his bachelor’s degree in corporate recreation and wellness in 2016 and his master’s degree in applied health and sports science in 2018, both from Northwest Missouri State.

Sherman is a native of Crete, Nebraska, and attended Crete High School, where he earned Super States honors as a senior. Sherman led the Cardinals to an undefeated season as a senior, winning the Class B state championship.
