Brock Sherman is in his fourth year as an analyst with the University of Iowa football program, and in his seventh year with Iowa overall. Sherman served as a special teams assistant the previous three seasons.

Iowa won 27 combined contests the last three seasons, including capturing the Big Ten West Division in 2023 and winning the 2025 ReliaQuest Bowl with a 34-27 triumph over No. 14 Vanderbilt. Iowa has been ranked in the final AP Top 25 six of the last eight seasons, including ranking No. 17 in 2025. The Hawkeyes won nine games in 2025.

The Hawkeyes have earned 37 conference victories between 2020-25, matching its highest six-year conference win total in program history (2019-24).

Iowa’s special teams have consistently performed at a high level and the last two seasons no different. Return specialist and consensus All-American Kaden Wetjen became the first player to win the Jet Award in back-to-back seasons after leading the country in combined kick return yardage in 2024 and 2025. Also a two-time Big Ten Rodgers-Dwight Big Ten Return Specialist of the Year, Wetjen averaged 26.8 yards per punt return in 2025 to establish a new NCAA benchmark. Wetjen is the only player in Big Ten history to have three punt return TDs and a kick return TD in the same season (2025) and the only player in the country to have both a kickoff and punt touchdown in 2024 and 2025.

Kicker Drew Stevens broke the school record for most career field goals (76) and number of field goals made over 50 yards (12). He finished his collegiate career with four game-winning field goals. Stevens also etched his name in the record book by converting a 58-yard field goal against Oregon in 2025 to tie the Iowa and Kinnick Stadium records.

Iowa’s kickoff return defense ranked in the top 20 nationally four of the last five seasons, including ranking sixth in 2025 (15.08) and eighth in 2023 (15.57).

The Hawkeyes won 10 games in 2021, winning the Big Ten West Division title and advancing to the conference championship game. Iowa concluded the season with an appearance in the Citrus Bowl and was ranked 23rd in the final national ranking.

Following back-to-back narrow losses to open the 2020 season, Iowa won its final six games, all in Big Ten play. The Hawkeyes were ranked 15th in the final CFP rankings and Coaches Poll and 16th by the AP.

Iowa ranked first in the country in net punting (44.2), fourth in blocked punts (2) and eighth in kickoff return defense (15.6) in 2023. Punter Tory Taylor and return specialist Cooper DeJean were each recognized as unanimous consensus All-Americans. Taylor also became the first Hawkeye be voted the Ray Guy Award, which is presented to the nation’s top punter. Taylor set new NCAA single-season records in 2023 for most punt yards (4,479) and average yards per punt (minimum 75 punts -- 48.2). He also holds the NCAA’s highest punting average in a career (46.3).

In 2022, the Hawkeyes ranked among the top three in the conference in punt and kickoff returns, and punt and kickoff return defense. Iowa was third in the Big Ten and 15th nationally in net punting, while ranking second in the conference and 19th in the nation with three blocked kicks.

Iowa’s special teams in 2021, ranked among national leaders in kickoff return defense (14th), kickoff returns (17th) and punt return defense (18th). Charlie Jones was second in the nation in combined kick return yards and Taylor was 12th in the country in punting average (46.1).

Iowa’s special teams played a key role in its 2020 success as well. Taylor was named the Big Ten Punter of the Year. He was named first-team Freshman All-America by the FWAA, was second-team All-America by The Athletic and was a semifinalist for the Ray Guy Award. Iowa led the Big Ten and ranked fifth nationally in net punting (42.9) in 2020, while also ranking fifth in the nation in kickoff return coverage (15.7).

Sherman played linebacker for Northwest Missouri State from 2011-15, earning All-MIAA accolades, serving as a team captain in 2015. He started 15 games and helped lead the Bearcats to a Division II national championship that season. During his time as an athlete, Sherman helped his team compile a 50-5 record with two national championships (2013, 2015) and three consecutive conference titles (2013-15).

Prior to joining the Hawkeye staff, Sherman was a defensive graduate assistant coach at New Mexico State for two seasons (2018-19), where he worked with linebackers.

Sherman was a defensive graduate assistant at Northwest Missouri State in 2016 and 2017, working with the defensive line, linebackers, and special teams.

Sherman earned his bachelor’s degree in corporate recreation and wellness in 2016 and his master’s degree in applied health and sports science in 2018, both from Northwest Missouri State.

Sherman is a native of Crete, Nebraska, and attended Crete High School, where he earned Super States honors as a senior. Sherman led the Cardinals to an undefeated season as a senior, winning the Class B state championship.

Sherman and his wife, Crystal, have one daughter, Alayna.
