Johnson, Mutunga Take Home B1G Honors

IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa track and field’s Ryan Johnson and Damaris Mutunga earned Big Ten Athlete of the Week honors, the league announced on Wednesday. Johnson was named the Big Ten Men’s Field Athlete of the Week and Mutunga claimed the Big Ten Women’s Freshman of the Week honor.

Track and Field Notebook: Iowa Open

The Hawkeyes are back home for the first time this month, hosting the Iowa Open on Friday, February 21. The high jump kicks off the Iowa Open at 11:00 am at the Hawkeye Indoor Track Facility. Action starts at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex at 12:30 pm with the men’s and women’s weight throw.

Johnson Shatters School Record to Close Weekend

TIFFIN, Ohio – University of Iowa track and field sophomore Ryan Johnson crushed his previous program record at the Robinson Family Open in Tiffin, Ohio, with a 24.59-meter throw. Johnson’s heave is the second-farthest in NCAA D1 in 2025.

Track and Field Notebook: Tiffin, Tyson, Texas Tech, Boston Invitational

The Hawkeyes travel to four meets during the Feb. 14-15 weekend. Iowa returns to the Jarvis Scott Open in Lubbock, Texas, with its sprints and hurdles groups. The jumps, multis, 400 and 800 groups head to the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The distance group will head to the David Hemery Valentine Invite in Boston, while the throws group travels to the Robinson Family Open in Tiffin, Ohio.

Hawkeyes Take Down 2 School Records at Iowa State, New Mexico

Track and field concluded the New Mexico Collegiate Classic and Iowa State Classic with record-setting performances from Ryan Johnson in the weight throw and the women’s 4x400 relay team of Alivia Williams, Chioma Nwachukwu, Damaris Mutunga, and Olicia Lucas.

Johnson, Olsen named January Student-Athletes of the Month

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- University of Iowa student-athletes Ryan Johnson (men’s track and field) and Lucy Olsen (women’s basketball) were named January’s Student-Athletes of the Month, the Iowa Student-Athlete Advisory Committee announced.

Vogelsang, Mutunga earn B1G Weekly Honors

Abraham Vogelsang and Damaris Mutunga earned Big Ten Athlete of the Week honors, the league announced on Wednesday. Vogelsang picked up Big Ten Men’s Field Athlete of the Week and Big Ten Men’s Freshman of the Week. Mutunga was named Big Ten Women’s Freshman of the Week.

The Hawkeyes send their sprints, hurdles and long sprints to Albuquerque, New Mexico, for the New Mexico Collegiate Classic on Friday and Saturday. The throws and distance groups head to Ames for the Iowa State Classic on Saturday.

Hawkeyes Impress in First Roadtrip of 2025

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – University of Iowa track and field won a combined six events to open its weekend at Missouri and Notre Dame on Friday evening. Annie Wirth highlighted the action at the Dr. Rick McGuire Invite in Columbia, Missouri, winning the pentathlon with a personal-best 3,890 points to move to sixth all-time at Iowa. Pauline Bikembo (women’s long jump), Ryan Johnson (weight throw) and Emmanuel Njoku (men’s long jump) also collected victories.

Track and Field Notebook: Meyo Invite, Dr. Rick McGuire Invite

The Hawkeyes hit the road, traveling to the Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Indiana, and the Dr. Rick McGuire Invitational in Columbia, Missouri, on Friday and Saturday. Friday will begin in Missouri at 10 a.m. and the Meyo Invite will start at 2 p.m. Saturday’s action will begin at 9 a.m. in South Bend with an ESPN broadcast starting at 1 p.m. while competition at Missouri will get started at 11 a.m.

IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa track and field opened day one of the annual Larry Wieczorek Invitational on Friday. Alivia Bauer, Alli Bookin-Nosbisch, Lia Love and Miles Wilson claimed event titles for the Hawkeyes.
