THIS WEEK
The Hawkeyes hit the road, traveling to the Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Indiana, and the Dr. Rick McGuire Invitational in Columbia, Missouri, on Friday and Saturday. Friday will begin in Missouri at 10 a.m. and the Meyo Invite will start at 2 p.m. Saturday’s action will begin at 9 a.m. in South Bend with an ESPN broadcast starting at 1 p.m. while competition at Missouri will get started at 11 a.m.

2024-25 NEWS
- The Hawkeyes won eight event titles and made three updates to the top-ten program list at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational between two days of competition.
- Senior Lia Love claimed the 200 meter premier event title with a time of 24.04. In the 600-meter premier, senior Alli Bookin-Nosbisch crossed the line first in 1:28.78 securing first for the Hawkeyes. Sophomore Miles Wilson led the men’s distance group in the 3,000 meters, breaking the tape in 8:21.25. Senior Alivia Bauer secured first in the women’s weight throw, winning with an 18.89-meter toss.
- Lillian Harden climbed to sixth in the 60-meter hurdles record books with an 8.26 in the finals. Damaris Mutunga won the Jimmy Grant 400-meter premier in 53.15 to hold the Hawkeyes’ sixth-fastest time. Kai Graves-Blanks moved into sole possession of Iowa’s eighth-fastest time in the 60-meter hurdles, winning the event in 7.78.
- Sophomore Ryan Johnson set a program and facility record with a 24.00-meter toss in the men's weight throw that ranked first nationally in his debut at the Hawkeye Invitational.
- Returning All-American Daniela Wamokpego kicked off 2025 with a school record 13.32-meter mark in the triple jump.
- Six Hawkeyes won events in their debuts at the Jimmy Grant Invitational, including Alivia Williams (300 meters), Terrick Johnson (600 meters), Mutunga (600 meters), Luke Knepp (3,000 meters), Ethan Glyde (high jump) and Pauline Bikembo (pentathlon). Bikembo (4,229 points) and Mutunga (1:28.19) rose to second and third all-time at Iowa in their respective events and Knepp’s finish was the sixth fastest time in program history at the time.
- The women's pentathlon was led by Bikembo at the Jimmy Grant Invite, who was the Hawkeyes' top finisher in every event with a final 4,229 points. Sophomore Annie Wirth earned a personal record in the long jump (5.53 meters) and finished second on the day, claiming a personal record and sixth all-time ranking at Iowa.
- Senior Zidane Brown and sophomore Isaac Lewis posted times within the top-ten in the NCAA Division I. Brown won the men’s 400 meters in 46.99 that was good for seventh in the NCAA, while Lewis followed in 47.19 for the ninth-fastest time in the nation at the time of completion.
- At the Jimmy Grant Invite, Sean Smith set a then-school record that ranked third nationally, while Bauer defended her weight throw title. Sophomore Wisdom Williams cracked into Iowa’s top-10 list in her weight throw debut.
LAST TIME OUT
At the Larry Wieczorek Invitational, the Hawkeyes made three updates to the program's top-ten list. Freshmen Lillian Harden (60-meter hurdles) and Damaris Mutunga (400 meters) entered the all-time record book in their respective events. Sophomore Kai Graves-Blanks moved to eighth on Iowa’s all-time list in the 60-meter hurdles. The Hawkeyes also dominated in the relays securing first in both men’s and women’s. In the women’s 4x400 meter relay, the team of Olicia Lucas, Gabby Cortez, Chioma Nwachukwu and Mutunga clocked in with a first-place time of 3:36.80. The men’s 4x400 meter relay team of James Fingalsen, Nicholas Gorsich, Tyrese Miller and Isaac Lewis claimed first place with a 3:11.59. The Hawkeyes collected six lifetime bests in the mile races. In the men’s Track Guy Foundation and Larry Wieczorek mile premier, Hayden Kuhn, Carson Lane, Yohana Yual, Miles Wilson and Brayden Burnett notched personal records. In the women’s Jerry Hassard mile premier, Miriam Sandeen clocked a career-best 5:10.13.
IN THE RANKINGS
In the first USTFCCCA rankings of the 2025 indoor season, the Hawkeyes enter ranked No. 18 in the women's poll. The men's team is just outside of the top 25. Regionally, the Iowa women are No. 2 in the Midwest, while the men are ranked No. 3. Iowa has seven event groups ranked within the top 20 nationally, led by the men's weight throw, which holds the No. 1 ranking. The women's 60-meter hurdles unit is ranked sixth, while the men's 400 ranks eighth. The men's 60-hurdles, women's 400 meters, women's weight throw and women's long jump are also ranked among the top 20 event groups in the country.
B1G ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Two Hawkeyes earned B1G Athlete of the Week awards following their performances at the Hawkeye Invitational. Sophomore Ryan Johnson was awarded the Big Ten Men’s Field Athlete of the Week after securing a personal-best 24.00 meters to win the men’s weight throw. He rose to the top of Iowa’s all-time list in the event and is leading the nation with this mark. Johnson also improved his own U20 world record. Chioma Nwachukwu was named the Big Ten Women’s Freshman of the Week after her outstanding performance in the 400 meters. Nwachukwu sped to a 53.32 finish, claiming the Hawkeye Invitational event title and rising to seventh on Iowa’s all-time list. Nwachukwu is the fastest freshman in the event this season and currently ranks seventh nationally in the 400 meters. Three Hawkeyes earned B1G Athlete of the Week awards following their performances at the Jimmy Grant Alumni Invitational. Sean Smith won men’s field athlete of the week, Daniela Wamokpego was named co-field athlete of the week and Pauline Bikembo won freshman athlete of the week honors.
HAWKEYES IN THE TOP 10
The Hawkeyes have eight athletes ranked in the top 10 nationally. Ryan Johnson is the highest-ranked Hawkeye (No. 2 - weight throw). Senior Alli Bookin-Nosbisch has the eighth-fastest time in the 800 meters. In the 600 meters, Damaris Mutunga ranks ninth. The triple jump sees sophomore Daniela Wamokpego claim a top 10 spot. The women's pentathlon top-10 list features freshman Pauline Bikembo. For the men’s pentathlon, junior Sal Capaldo, freshman Canaan Burnett and freshman Will Davidson represent the Hawkeyes in the top 10.
JOHNSON DOMINATES IN DEBUT
In his Hawkeye debut, sophomore Ryan Johnson set a program and facility record with a 24.00-meter throw. Johnson rose to the top of Iowa’s all-time list with his first throw of 23.57 meters. Johnson would better that mark twice more in his series. On his final throw, Johnson rocketed to the top of the national rankings. All six of Johnson’s throws surpassed the 22.75 mark. The performance updated his U20 world record.

PAIGE NOTES
Senior Paige Magee set a school record in the 60-meter hurdles at the 2024 Big Ten Indoor Championships, becoming the first Hawkeye to run sub-eight. Magee raced 7.99 in the prelims, tying for the best time in the Big Ten and seventh nationally. Magee placed second in the finals at the conference meet, contributing to 22 points across three events (2nd in 60mH, 2nd in 4x400m, 3rd in 200m). Magee earned a bid to the NCAA Championships, where she was a second-team All-American in the 60-meter hurdles. Prior to last season, the Iowa record stood at 8.07, which Magee busted on three occasions.
THE BOOKIN-NOSBISCH CLUB
Twins Alli and Grace Bookin-Nosbisch have spilled serious ink in the annals of the Iowa record book. Alli sits atop the indoor 800 meters column with her 2:03.42 set at the Tyson Invite a season ago. Grace ranks seventh in the same category with a 2:07.21 set in 2024. Both were members of the 11:15.07 school-record DMR team at Big Tens last season.
