GREENVILLE, SC – The Iowa women’s tennis team finished the first day of the Furman Fall Classic, winning three singles matches and two doubles matches.
Anastasia Zhukova and Milica Veselinovic both snagged wins in singles and doubles. Zhukova went into three sets against Vanderbilt’s Annie Menees. She won the flight three match, 7-6 (5), 3-6, 6-1. Freshman Veselinovic defeated Justin Walsh of South Carolina, 6-1, 6-4, at flight four. At flight five, Hilary Tyler won against Furman’s Lauren Osborne, 6-2, 6-4.
Meg Racette and Hillary Mintz advanced to the third place match in flight one doubles after a win and loss. The duo defeated Mary Neill Hagood and Caroline Bentley of Furman, 8-2, but then lost to Taka Bertrand and Amanda Fish of Vanderbilt in a close 9-8 (6) match. Zhukova and Veselinovic also garnered a win in doubles against Furman’s Lauren Osborne and Bonnie Baird, 8-4.
The Hawkeyes will continue competition at the Furman Fall Classic tomorrow.
