Three Champions In San Diego

SAN DIEGO, CA –

The Hawkeye women’s track team wrapped up the second day of competition at the Aztec Track Classic in San Diego, CA, in good fashion, winning three events and adding two NCAA Midwest Regional qualifiers.

Senior Tiffany Johnson and junior Diane Nukuri both won their events and posted regional qualifying times. Johnson won the 100-meter hurdles in 13.82, and Nukuri won the 1,500 meters in 4:20.95. The 1,600-meter relay of freshmen Sophia Poncé and Kara-Aretha Graham and seniors Aditya Jones and Monica Mims also won their race in 3:48.02.

Placing second for the Hawkeyes were junior Racheal Marchand (1,500 meters – 4:39.69), sophomore Renee White (long jump – 18-8 1/2) and freshman Caleigh Bacchus (high jump – 5-3). White also placed fourth in the open 200 meters (25.31) and ran the third leg on the third-place finishing 400-meter relay (46.36) with Johnson, freshman Rhonda-Kaye Trusty and junior Megan Clarke. Clarke also placed third in the open 200 meters (25.25)

Iowa’s next competition will be at the Stanford Inviational in Palo Alto, CA, March 29-30 and the Missouri Relays in Columbia, MO, March 30-31.
