STANFORD, CA – The University of Iowa field hockey team defeated Pacific Sunday, 8-0. The fourth-ranked Hawkeyes are now 4-2 on the season.

Iowa took control from the start. In the 12th minute, Caroline Blaum scored the first goal of the game of a pass from Roz Ellis. Moments later sophomores Sarah Pergine and Amy Baxter teamed up to score the second Hawkeye goal of the day. Baxter centered it to Pergine to make the score 2-0. One minute later, Ellis hit Caitlin McCurdy and she slammed it past the goalkeeper to move the advantage to 3-0.

Iowa would not stop there. Katie Naughton scored the fourth goal of the afternoon off a pass from Lauren Pfeiffer in the 24th minute. Minutes later in the 29th minute, Blaum scored again. The senior made the score 5-0 as she slammed home a goal off a deflection. Ellis and McCurdy teamed up again in the 33rd minute. McCurdy added her second goal of the day off a pass from Ellis. The second half would end with the Hawkeyes leading 6-0.

Iowa would add two second half goals to make the final 8-0. Lauren Pfeiffer scored in the 42nd minute. She was assisted by Tricia Dean and Pergine. In the 59th minute, Caitlin McCurdy had the hat trick as she scored her third goal of the day. The goal was assisted by Dean and Blaum.

“Today was a really strong team effort,” said Head Coach Tracey Griesbaum. “Our passing game was really solid. Overall, getting two wins on the long trip was exactly what we needed.”
