Hawkeyes Record 6 Wins and a Program Best at Jim Click Shootout

TUCSON, Ariz. – University of Iowa track and field won six events and set a new men’s 800-meter record on Saturday at the Jim Click Shootout and Mulit’s.

Junior Rivaldo Marshall beat the program record in the men’s 800 meters by four-hundredths of a second on Saturday, racing 1:45.86 to claim his second school record. Marshall also owns the indoor 800 record and became Iowa’s first men’s national champion since 1998 in the event this indoor season.

Marshall’s time ranks third in Division I this season and meets the Olympic trials standard. He led a group of three Hawkeyes to top-four finishes at the event in Tucson; freshman Caleb Levy placed third with a personal best of 1:49.39 and fifth-year Chase Lovercheck finished fourth in 1:50.73.

The 800 meters was good to Iowa on the women’s side, as well. Senior Katie Moore was the event champion with a time of 2:10.45, while sophomore Jalyssa Blazek set a personal-best 2:14.86 in fifth place.

In the women’s 4×100, the group of senior Tionna Tobias, senior Lia Love, sophomore Holly Duax and senior Paige Magee ran 44.44 to win the event and tie for sixth in program history.

The relay success was not over. Seniors Mariel Bruxvoort, Ali Dorn and Nylah Perry joined anchor Duax to win in 3:37.92.

The victory capped a banner day for Bruxvoort, who raced 57.58 in the women’s 400 hurdles to win.

Senior Kat Moody was champion in the women’s discus, slinging a 55.95-meter (183’ 6”) mark. Moody also finished fifth in the shot put at 16.20 meters (53’ 1.75”).

Iowa had three runner-up finishes, including Duax in the women’s 200 meters (23.63), freshman Kai Graves-Blanks in the men’s 110 hurdles (13.83) and freshman Josh Pugh in the men’s 400 meters (46.64).

The Hawkeyes set 11 personal records on Saturday.

HEAR FROM DIRECTOR OF TRACK AND FIELD JOEY WOODY
“I am really excited for Sal Capaldo competing very well in his first decathlon in an Iowa uniform. To come out with a +7,000 point score was very impressive. I thought Kai Graves-Blanks had a terrific race in the 110 hurdles. For him to run 13.8 wind legal in his second ever 110 hurdles race was really exciting. He is starting to figure things out pretty quickly in his young career.

“Kat Moody had a great day in the discus. She dominated the competition in a very strong field. Mariel Bruxvoort was excellent in the 400 hurdles and was really close to putting together a 56-second race. Our women’s 4×1 had a great start to their season. Those four competed together for the frist time this year. Holly Duax had a really good meet with a great race and PR in the 200, then coming back with a tremendous anchor leg to win the 4×400 relay.”
