Hawkeyes Dominate in Home Finale

The top-ranked University of Iowa women’s wrestling team dominated in its Carver-Hawkeye Arena season finale against Augustana College and No. 4 Grand Valley State on Saturday evening.

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The top-ranked University of Iowa women’s wrestling team dominated in its Carver-Hawkeye Arena season finale against Augustana College and No. 4 Grand Valley State University (GVSU) on Saturday evening.

The Hawkeyes opened the day with a 44-1 win over Augustana College. Third-ranked Sterling Dias started the dual by accpeting a forfeit at 103 pounds. Second-ranked Ava Bayless and top-ranked Brianna Gonzalez followed at 110 and 117 pounds, respectively, each earning 10-0 tech falls. At 124, seventh-ranked Cali Leng secured Iowa's first fall of the night, pinning Sandie Pfeil in 5:34. Both tenth-ranked Emily Frost at 131 pounds and sixth-ranked Cadence Diduch at 138 pounds posted 10-0 tech falls. Second-ranked Reese Larramendy then defeated Aine Moffit, 12-2, at 145 pounds. Top-ranked Kennedy Blades put on a show at 160 pounds, dominating Maryam Ndiaye, 13-0. Iowa ended the dual with two straight falls, as sixth-ranked Naomi Simon pinned Sawyer Graham in 53 seconds at 180 pounds, and sixth-ranked Alivia White pinned Angie Guy in 41 seconds at 207.

Iowa ended the day against GVSU and won, 35-7. Fifth-ranked Emilie Gonzalez accepeted a forfeit at 110 pounds to put thr Hawkeyes on the scoreboard. At 117, Brianna Gonzalez defeated Kiely Tabaldo, 11-0. Leng earned a top-five victory over fourth-ranked Aspen Blasko, winning, 2-2, via criteria. Fifth-year Emmily Patneaud pinned Hannah Palise in 2:18 at 131 pounds. Top-ranked Macey Kilty earned her fourth ranked win of the season, defeating ninth-ranked Elleni Johnson, 11-0, at 145 pounds. Blades dominated again at 160 pounds, pinning Clarissa Agostini in 38 seconds. Top-ranked Kylie Welker made quick work at 180 pounds, securing a 10-0 tech fall over Emily Medford. White closed out the dual at 207 pounds and defeated Aaliyah Grandberry, 5-0. 

NOTABLES
• Iowa recognized its five seniors post-dual: Emmily Patneaud, Nanea Estrella, Macey Kilty, Jaycee Foeller and student manager Alix Bushard.
• Iowa led all three squads with the most pins (5) in the least time (10:04).
• Iowa scored the most team points with 77.
• Iowa scored the most total match points with 147.
• Iowa posted an 18-2 record on the day.
Kennedy Blades recorded the fastest fall of the day in 38 seconds and earned the most total match points with 23. 
Reese Larramendy and Kennedy Blades led Iowa in single match points with 13 each.

The Hawkeyes will travel to Albany, NY, for the 2025 Journeymen Wrestling College Duals on Saturday, Jan. 25. Iowa will face Lock Haven, Sacred Heart, Elmira and Presbyterian.
