DES MOINES, Iowa -- The University of Iowa track and field team secured four event wins at the Jim Duncan Invitational on Friday afternoon.
“Although we didn’t have too many athletes compete today, I was very pleased with our overall performances from Jim Duncan,” Director of Track and Field Joey Woody said. “I was really happy for Wisdom to throw over 16 meters again and set an outdoor personal-best for the win in the shot put. Austin Busch competed very well and had a nice series of throws. Duke Faley competed very well today for his first collegiate win in the discus. We had multiple personal-bests on the track, led by freshmen Marissa Long and Armaan Chopra in the 1,500 meters. It was good to see Alivia get some momentum going in the hammer throw and be right off of her personal-best. I’m excited to see her progress over these next few meets.”
The Hawkeyes took home wins in the women’s 800 meters, women’s shot put, men’s hammer and men’s discus.
Junior Wisdom Williams claimed a personal best and top four all-time finish in the women’s shot put with a toss of 16.15 meters. Senior Jaiden Itson secured the win in the 800 meters with a time of 2:12.50. In the men’s discus, freshman Duke Faley threw a personal-best 54.75 meters.
The Hawkeyes dominated in the men’s hammer throw with sophomore Austin Busch claiming the gold with a 65.30-meter throw. Junior Sean Smith claimed second with a 64.77-meter toss. In seventh, junior Walker Whalen hit the 58.26-meter mark. On the women’s side, senior Alivia Bauer picked up third, throwing 56.09 meters.
Freshman Bryce Ruland finished second in the men’s discus with a throw of 53.78 meters. Sophomore Sydnie Smith also secured second with a 48.42-meter throw.
Freshman Marissa Long took home a personal-best 4:48.13 in the women’s 1,500 meters to finish fourth. On the men’s side, a pair of freshmen took home personal bests. Armaan Chopra (3:56.92) finished second and Kyle Montogomey (3:59.48) claimed eighth.
In the women’s 5,000 meters, junior Rowan Boulter picked up third, clocking in at a personal-best, 17:47.18.
Up Next: The Hawkeyes travel across the country to compete in California at the Mt. Sac Relays and Bryan Clay Invitational. They also will travel to the Kansas Relays, Tom Jones Invitational and Beach Invitational.
