hawkeyesports.com visited recently with junior center Jamie Cavey from Mechanicsville, Iowa. Here’s a piece of that conversation.
If you could guest star in any movie (past or present), which would it be and why?
“I would guest star in Robin Hood: Men in Tights because I would get to be Maid Marian and she’s pretty. I’d also get to see boys walking around in tights all day.”
What CD, tape or DVD in your collection would you consider to be the most embarrassing?
“Well, I own two Backstreet Boys and three N’Sync CD’s. I also own The Little Rascals, but it’s always a favorite amongst kids if they come over. I also have to admit that I own a TV and VCR that is from like 1985. When people come over they say in a sassy tone, ‘Nice TV Jamie.'”
What song would you sing at a karaoke contest to dazzle the crowd?
“If I was singing by myself, I would probably sing Sk8terboi or Complicated by Avril Lavigne because we’re a lot alike. And if I was singing with someone, I would definitely sing Dilemma by Nelly with Tiffany.”

“I’d say my favorite Christmas carol would be O Holy Night. On a side note, there is a certain player on our team whose favorite Christmas song is song by Wham….. that’s craziness!!!

What do you like to do for fun when you’re away from basketball?
“I like to talk to people, procrastinate, clean my room and eat.”
What is your favorite basketball-related memory?
“My favorite basketball-related high school memory would be when we won the state championship because a lot of people don’t get to experience that and it was an awesome feeling. My favorite basketball-related college memory would be any time we upset a team, like Penn State on our home floor and Minnesota at the Big Ten Tournament last year.”
What is your favorite reality television show and why?
“Any show related to MTV’s The Real World; whether it is The Real World, Real World/Road Rules Challenge or Battle of the Sexes. I’m addicted to all those shows. I like them because if you follow The Real World over the years, they always have reunion shows where they come back and compete against each other.”
When you were little, what did you pretend to be?
“Either a movie star or She-Ra. Me and my sister (Ann) got a joint present of a She-Ra costume so we could only wear half of her.”
Do you have any phobias, if so which one(s)?
“I would have to say arachnophobia. It’s weird because if I see a spider on the wall I won’t kill it because I’m scared, but if a spider was dangling in front of my face, I’d slap it and kill it real fast.”
Who makes you laugh the most on the team?
“I’d say that I get a laugh out of most everyone of the team, myself included. Tiffany is a sure thing all the time though. The coaches even give me a chuckle every now and then.”
