This weekend members of the University of Iowa track team competed in the NCAA Last Chance Qualifier meet hosted by Iowa State in Ames, IA. The meet’s purpose was to give athletes more meet in which to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championship meet.

Sophomore Shane Maier, who has already provisionally qualified in the shot put, was the top men’s performer in the long jump. He placed third with a toss of 57-6.5

The Hawkeye men have qualified three athletes for the championships in field events. Maier has qualified in the shot put, Adam Hamilton has made it in the weight throw and Big Ten long jump champion Matty Gorman is going to nationals in that event.

The 2006 NCAA Indoor Championships are March 10-11, 2006 in Fayetteville, AK, on the University of Arkansas campus.
