IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa Head Women’s Basketball Coach Lisa Bluder has announced that Melissa Dixon, Bethany Doolittle, Virginia Johnson, Samantha Logic and Kathryn Reynolds have signed National Letters of Intent to attend the University of Iowa next fall.
Dixon is a 5-8 guard from Johnsburg, Ill., and attends Johnsburg High School. Dixon is a five-time all-state selection, including special mention honors from the Chicago Tribune as a sophomore and junior. She was honored by the Northwest Herald as the Player of the Year as a junior, along with first team honors as a sophomore and honorable mention recognition as a freshman. Dixon is a two-time Fox Valley all-Conference team pick and has four all-tournament team awards in her career.
Dixon enters her senior year with 1,395 career points, averaging nine points as a freshman, 16.1 as a sophomore and 19.4 as a junior. She led the Northwest Herald area in points per game, free throw percentage (.850) and three-pointers made (84) as a junior. She holds a school record for three-pointers made in one half, as she buried seven treys in the first half of a game in the Dundee-Crown Holiday Tournament. She also helped lead Johnsburg High School to three-straight conference titles, along with two Elite 8 and one Final 16 berth in the IHSA Tournament.
Dixon played for the Midwest Elite team that won the USJN National Championship and finished with a 50-3 record. Logic and Dixon were teammates on the Midwest Elite team.
Dixon is also a member of the National Honor Society.
Doolittle is a 6-4 center from Oakdale, Minn., and attends Hill-Murray High School. She earned honorable mention all-state honors as a junior and is a two-time all-conference selection. Doolittle was also named to the Minnesota all-Breakdown team as a sophomore and junior. She is a two-time team captain.
Doolittle averaged 10.9 points per game as a sophomore, along with 13.5 points and 8.6 rebounds per game as a junior. She holds school records for single-season field goal percentage (.621), single-season blocks (127) and periods played in a single season (63).
Doolittle led Hill-Murray High School to a section 4AAA championship and a runner-up finish at the state tournament as a junior. She also led her high school team to a Classic Suburban Conference title as a junior and a second place finish as a sophomore.
Doolittle played AAU-affiliated basketball for the Midtown Monarchs in 2007-08 and was named Defensive Player of the Year for her club team. She was a member of the Minnesota Fury during the 2009-10 season.
Doolittle has been an A-Honor Roll student throughout her high school career.
Johnson is a 6-2 forward from Iowa City and attends Iowa City High School. She was high school teammates with current Hawkeye Kelly Krei. Johnson is the No. 62 recruit in the 2011 class according to ESPNHoopGurlz and the a top 100 recruit by Blue Star Basketball. Johnson is a six-time all-state selection, including first team honors by both the Iowa Newspaper Association and the Iowa Basketball Coaches Association as a sophomore and junior. Johnson is also a two-time first team all-region and all-conference pick. She was named the Mississippi Valley Conference (Valley Division) Player of the Year as a sophomore and is a two-time Iowa City Press-Citizen Player of the Year.
Johnson averaged 13 points and seven rebounds as a freshman, helping lead City High to a state championship. She was named to the state tournament all-tournament team and was one of only three players to play every minute of the Class 4A State Championship game. She scored 17.2 points and grabbed 7.9 rebounds per game as a sophomore along with 22 points and 10.3 rebounds as a junior.
Johnson played club basketball most recently for Team Iowa from 2008-10. She was named the 2009 Outstanding Athlete at the 2009 Iowa AAU Lillian Whiting Sports Award Banquet.
Johnson also lettered in track and field and softball. She holds the City High record for high-jump and placed fifth in the event at the state meet as a freshman and second as a sophomore. Johnson is a two-time all-conference pick in softball.
Johnson is an Honor Roll student and is also first-chair trumpet in the City High band.
Logic is a 5-9 guard from Racine, Wis., and attends Racine J.I. Case High School. Logic is the No. 10 ranked recruit in the 2011 class by ESPNHoopGurlz, No. 12 by Blue Star Basketball and No. 14 by the All-Star Girls Report. She is a four-time all-state pick, including first team selections by the WBCA and Associated Press as a junior. Logic is a three-time all-county honoree and was named all-county Player of the year as a sophomore and junior. She has been named all-conference three times, with first team honors coming as a sophomore and junior along with conference Player of the Year accolades as a junior.
Logic helped her team to a regional final berth as a freshman, a sectional semifinal appearance as a sophomore and a co-Southeastern Conference title and a quarterfinal appearance at the state tournament as a junior.
Logic averaged 10.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 5.9 assists and 2.8 steals per game as a freshman, 15.1 points, seven rebounds, 6.4 assists and 3.9 steals as a sophomore and 16.4 points, 9.3 rebounds, 6.8 assists and 4.4 steals as a junior.
Logic played AAU basketball with Dixon and the Midwest Elite team. Logic was named the ESPN HoopGurlz Breakout Player of the Summer in 2010.
Logic also lettered in softball and golf. She is a two-time all-conference and first team all-county pick in softball and lettered twice in golf.
Logic also excels in the classroom, earning High Honor Roll honors and is a member of the National Honor Society, Focus on Community and Positive Impact groups.
Reynolds is a 5-7 guard from Cincinnati, Ohio, and attends Mount Notre Dame High School. Reynolds is a two-time all-conference selection, including second team honors as a sophomore. She earned the Heart and Hustle Award at the Pickerington Kroger Holiday Classic and all-tournament team honors at the Bill Yikes Thanksgiving Tournament as a sophomore. Reynolds was forced to miss her junior season after suffering a torn ACL just six games into the season.
Reynolds led her high school team to GGCL Conference and Ohio State championships as a freshman and sophomore. She hit a buzzer-beating layup in the Division I state championship game as a rookie.
Reynolds was a perfect 100 percent from the free throw line as a freshman and averaged 9.7 points along with a .450 three-point percentage as a sophomore. She was averaging 11.2 points and two assists per game as a junior before suffering the season-ending injury.
Reynolds played for the Cincinnati Tar Heels club team and won the 2006 and 2007 USJN national championship.
Reynolds also played golf at Mount Notre Dame High School from 2007-08.
Reynolds received First Honors on the Honor Roll, served as treasurer for the National Honor Society, is an Advanced Placement Scholar and is also a member of the Spanish National Honor Society.
Her father, Terry, is the Senior Director of Professional and Global Scouting for the Cincinnati Reds.
