Jennings Named PARADE All-American

March 18, 2014

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa women’s basketball signee Whitney Jennings has been named to the 2014 Parade All-America Girls Basketball Team. The Logansport, Ind., native was 1-of-20 high school seniors selected to the All-America team. She will join the Hawkeye program in the fall.

Iowa is 1-of-4 Big Ten teams with an incoming freshman named to the squad (Indiana, Michigan State, Ohio State), and 1-of-2 league teams (Michigan State) to have a Parade All-American in each of the last two years. Iowa freshman Ally Disterhoft (2013) and junior Samantha Logic (2011) were also Parade All-Americans.

“Anytime we have a recruit named a Parade All-American, it is a great honor for our program and for the recruit,” said UI head coach Lisa Bluder. “It is a tremendous accomplishment to be considered one of the top-20 players in the country.

“We have had Parade All-Americans join our program in back-to-back years, and Sam (Logic) also earned the honor in 2011. That says a lot about the type of kids we are recruiting to come here and join our program.”

Jennings, a 5-foot-5 senior guard from Logansport High School, was named the 2013-14 Gatorade Indiana Girls Basketball Player of the Year on March 13. She averaged 32 points, eight rebounds, 7.4 assists and 5.1 steals this past season, leading the Berries (24-3) to the Class 4A state semifinals. A 2013 Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports First Team All-State selection, Jennings recorded three triple-doubles and was a 2014 McDonald’s All-American selection committee nominee. She concluded her prep basketball career with 2,641 points, fifth on the state’s career scoring list.

Jennings has maintained a 3.99 GPA in the classroom. A long-time member of the 4-H Youth Development Organization, she has volunteered locally as a peer tutor, library student assistant and youth basketball coach.

Christina Buttenham (Hamilton, Ontario, Canada), Chase Coley (Minneapolis), and Carly Mohns (Brodhead, Wis.) have also signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University of Iowa next fall.
