Hawkeyes Soar Through Hawkeye Invitational

IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa track and field returned to action with three top 10 marks at the Hawkeye Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

“I thought we made some great progress from last December”, Coach Woody said. “Most of our athletes came back fit and ready to compete at a high level and we saw that today. Obviously, James (Carter) had a great opener in the triple jump and I thought the women hurdlers competed extremely well. A big PR for Myreanna (Bebe), just off of the school record.”

Sophomore Jenoah McKiver made his season debut and claimed victory in the men’s 400-meter event. His time of 46.26 set a meet record and puts him atop the NCAA rankings.

“Jenoah performed exceptionally well and to be able to open up 46 low on this track is really exciting, especially on January 14th,” Coach Woody said.

The Hawkeyes registered multiple 1-2 finishes, beginning with the women’s 60-meter hurdles, where junior Myreanna Bebe set a personal best and meet record, tying her for second all-time in Hawkeye history. Junior Paige Magee crossed the line second with a time of 8.31. Shortly after, the tandem of senior LaSarah Hargrove (7.39) and sophomore Lia Love (7.41) finished with gold and silver in the women’s 60-meter dash.

Magee earned the women’s 200-meter title, while setting a personal record of 24.01. Senior Mariel Bruxvoort followed right behind, finishing with a mark of 24.61. In the men’s triple jump, senior James Carter set a meet record with a mark of 15.75 meters (51’ 8.25”), earning first place. Senior DeAndre Stapleton Jr. came in second with a jump of 15.12 meters (49’ 7.25”). The women’s 4×400-meter squads capped off the day with back-to-back finishes with Bruxvoort, redshirt freshman Chloe Larsen, freshman Audrey Biermann, and junior Alli Bookin-Nosbisch crossing the finish line in 3:38.28 to set the meet record, followed by junior Katie Moore, freshman Gabby Cortez, junior Clare Pitcher, and sophomore Jaiden Itson in 3:44.77.

In the men’s high jump, senior Zack Pluff set a meet record and new personal best, while climbing to eighth all-time in Iowa history with his leap of 2.11 meters (6’ 11”).

Senior Jordan Johnson claimed the men’s weight throw title and improved his mark of ninth best all-time at Iowa with a new personal record toss of 20.06 (65’ 9.75”). The Hawkeyes had a clean sweep in the men’s shot put, as Johnson took the crown with a new best toss of 17.46 meters (57’ 3.5”). Senior Elijah Barnes (17.15 meters/56’ 3.25”) and junior Quintin Lyons (16.01 meters/52’ 6.5”) finished second and third, respectively. In the women’s shot put, senior Kat Moody claimed the title with a toss of 15.64 meters (51’ 3.75”).
