Hargrove, Jefferson Win 200 Meters at Larry Wieczorek Invite

IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa track and field opened competition on day one of the Larry Wieczorek Invitational on Friday.

Senior Lasarah Hargrove and junior Khullen Jefferson swept the Hawkeye Pro 200-meters for the Hawkeyes. Hargrove won the women’s event in 23.79, and Jefferson crossed the line in 21.07 to win the event title.  

The meet started at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex (HTRC) with the women’s weight throw. Iowa was led by senior Amanda Howe, who finished second with a toss of 20.14 meters (66’ 1”). Senior Jamie Kofron had a mark of 18.98, two-hundredths off of her season best, to place third. On the men’s side, senior Jordan Johnson took bronze with a throw of 19.71 meters (64’ 8”).

In the women’s 200-meter premier, freshman Alexandria Edison took second with a personal best (24.83). Senior DeAndre Stapleton Jr. registered the third fastest men’s 200-meter premier time (21.96), setting his career best. 

Redshirt freshman Chloe Larsen finished second (1:30.70) in her 600-meter debut and was the fastest collegiate athlete to cross the finish line in the Hawkeye Pro 600 meters.

The Hawkeyes posted five additional personal bests, including Konnor Sommer in the men’s 3,000-meter race (8:20.20), Audrey Biermann (25.08) and Julia Pattison (25.52) in the 200-meter premier, and Grace Bookin-Nosbisch (1:32.95) and Katie Moore (1:33.74) in the Hawkeye Pro 600 meters. 

The Hawkeyes return to action at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational on Saturday at noon (CT) with the Shot Put Premier inside the Iowa Indoor Track Facility. Running events begin at 2:35 p.m. The meet is live stream on B1G+ (subscription required).
