DES MOINES, Iowa – The University of Iowa softball team fell to the Iowa State, 7-6, on Saturday evening at the Buel Field in a 9-inning exhibition.
The Hawkeyes used the combination of Andrea Jaskowiak, Jalen Adams and Devyn Greer in the circle. They allowed seven runs on nine hits, six walks and one error.
Iowa jumped out to a, 1-0, lead in the opening frame as sophomore Jena Young came home on an RBI double from Devin Bowman. The Hawkeyes managed to get runners on in every inning but were unable to cash in until the sixth where they plated three runs on four hits and a walk to tie the game at four.
The Cyclones took the lead in the seventh, 7-4, after plating three runs on two home runs and a sacrifice fly. Iowa got within one in the eighth after a two-RBI double from sophomore Devin Simon. The Hawkeyes got one on in the ninth but was unable to bring them around.
Iowa finished the game with six runs on 16 hits and two Cyclone errors.
The Hawkeyes return to action tomorrow Sunday September 29 for the final day of the Big Four Classic. They will face Drake at the Buel Field in Des Moines, Iowa. First pitch is scheduled for 2 P.M. CT and admission is free.
