Hawkeyes Conclude Day 2 at B1G Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio – University of Iowa swimming and diving wrapped up day two of the Big Ten Championships on Thursday morning inside the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – University of Iowa swimming and diving wrapped up day two of the Big Ten Championships on Thursday morning inside the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.

Iowa wrapped up day two of the Big Ten Championships with five personal records and two season bests. Olivia Swalley earned Iowa’s best results, finishing 26th in the 200 IM in 1:59.79. Swalley placed just outside of finals qualification and was an alternate for the final.

Freshman Rachel Dildine captured Iowa’s best time in the 50 freestyle (23.09). Three Hawkeyes notched career bests in the 50 freestyle with Molly Pedersen (23.62), Elizabeth Beam (24.02) and Hannah Cousins (24.06). Megan Hartlieb recorded a season-best 24.25 in the race.

Along with Swalley’s strong performance in the 200 IM, Leslie Wendel tallied a personal-best of 2:08.19. Alix O’Brien led the Hawkeyes in the 500 freestyle, placing 33rd and touching the wall in 4:49.08. Madison Stone notched a lifetime best of 4:59.60.

The Hawkeyes capped the night with a season-best performance in the 200-freestyle relay as the quartet of Dildine, Pedersen, Josie Hood and Annie Galvin finished in 1:32.67. 

On the one-meter springboard, Lainey Woodward was the top Iowa finisher with 232.25 points. Stephanie Avram followed closely behind with 225.80.

UP NEXT: The Big Ten Championships resume on Friday morning with prelims beginning at 9 a.m. and the finals session starting at 4 p.m. inside the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.
