Iowa Falls At Purdue

University of Iowa swimming and diving fell to Purdue, 190-109, on Friday afternoon at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – University of Iowa swimming and diving fell to Purdue, 190-109, on Friday afternoon at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center.

The Hawkeyes collected four individual wins and five season bests during their meet with the Boilermakers. 

Reigning Big Ten Freshman of the Week Payton Flowers collected two of the Hawkeyes’ four individual wins. Flowers won the 50 free in 23.20. Her second win was in the 100 fly, touching the wall in 55.47. 

Junior Olivia Swalley picked up two individual wins, claiming victory in the 200 breaststroke (2:19.75) and 400 individual medley (4:20.58) to add to Iowa’s team total.

“Our team continued to make progress today against an experienced and very talented team in Purdue. We’re really proud of how we finished the meet with victories in the last couple of events, including the final relay. We’re excited to have an opportunity to host a quality field of opponents at our Hawkeye Invitational in a couple of weeks.”

The 200 medley relay team of Hope Schimming, Swalley, Flowers and Audrey Olen started the meet off strong with a season-best time of 1:42.13 and finished second in the race. Junior Mallory Kell collected a season-best (2:13.33) in the 200 butterfly.

Junior Jenna Kerr and freshman Ella Jean Kelly turned in strong performances, tallying two more season bests in the 100 free. Kerr placed second with a time of 50.80 and Kelly swam a 51.58 to place fourth overall. In the 500 free, sophomore Nora Kemp earned the final season best (4:59.37) and finished second in the race. 

Seniors Lainey Woodward and Geneva Pauly were Iowa’s top divers of the day. In the one-meter dive, Woodward secured bronze with 275.93 points. Pauly placed fifth overall in the three-meter dive with 293.85 points to round out the afternoon.

Up Next: Iowa returns home Nov. 18-21 to host the Hawkeye Invitational at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center.
