AMES, Iowa – University of Iowa swimming and diving defeated in-state rival Iowa State on Saturday afternoon, 194-105, in the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series meet at the Beyer Hall Pool. The Hawkeyes ended the regular season with a 5-3 dual meet record.

“As it’s been all season, today was a total team victory. Having the rivalry meet against Iowa State is always exciting, especially this time of the season as we get ready for the Big Ten Championships. Finishing the dual meet season with a win today gives us momentum. We’re excited to see what we can do in the month of February and beyond.”
Senior Lainey Woodward highlighted the day with a pair of wins from the springboards. Finishing first in both the one (317.63) and three-meter (313.73) dives, Woodward moved up to 8th at Iowa in the one-meter. Freshmen Kamila Swanson and Zita Bernatsky were making their marks during the competition as well. Swanson tallied a season-best 287.85 points to finish third off the three-meter and Bernatsky took home silver in the one-meter with 298.43 points.
The Hawkeyes began the meet strong with a win in the 200-medley relay. Sophomore Elizabeth Beam, junior Olivia Swalley, sophomore Rachel Dildine and freshman Payton Flowers took first place, touching the wall in 1:41.13.
Juniors Olivia Frantum and Jenna Kerr continued the momentum with first-place finishes and season-best times. Frantum touched the wall in 10:05.63 in the 1,000 free and Kerr finished the 200 free in 1:49.83.
Iowa added a few more season-best times throughout the meet. In the 200 back, junior Hope Schimming took home bronze with a season-best time of 2:02.84. Junior Mallory Kell finished 6th in the 200 IM with a time of 2:08.89.
Iowa rounded out the meet with a win in the 400 free relay race. The team of Kerr, Flowers, Dildine and sophomore Audrey Olen clinched first place in 3:22.83.
The Hawkeyes ended the meet with a total of 14 event wins, six season bests and one top-10 record book adjustment.
Up Next: The Hawkeyes will travel to Minneapolis for the Big Ten Championships. The meet will take place Feb. 18-21 at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center.
