Matt Gabriel

Matt Gabriel joined the University of Iowa as an Assistant Athletic Performance Coach in August 2026. His team assignments include Baseball, Swim and Dive.

Prior to the University of Iowa, Matt served as an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Los Angeles Angels Organization. While with the Angels, he worked with both A ball affiliates, as well as most recently with AA affiliate, the Rocket City Trash Pandas.

In addition, he has stops with Utah Tech University, Jackson Academy, University of Notre Dame Football, University of Iowa Football, the University of Southern Mississippi, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, D1 Training and Bowling Green State University. 

Matt earned his Bachelor's in Exercise Science/Exercise Programming from Bowling Green State University and his Master's in Sport Coaching Education from the University of Southern Mississippi.

Matt is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA, as well as holding the certifications of USAW-1, FRCms and is CPR/First Aid/AED certified.
