Iowa Completes Day 2 at Big Tens

MADISON, Wis. – The University of Iowa women’s swimming and diving team competed in the first full day of the Big Ten Championships on Thursday at the Soderholm Family Aquatic Center.

Thursday’s events began with preliminary rounds for the 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free, and 1 meter diving.

Juniors Aleksandra Olesiak (2:06.69), Georgia Clark (2:08.37), and Zoe Pawloski (2:11.48) all swam season-best times during the preliminary 200 IM.

The other season-best of the day came from junior Ariel Wooden, who posted her season low (24.26) in the 50-free.

Sophomore Sarah Ballard placed 23rd out of 46 divers off the 1-meter springboard, rewarding the Hawkeyes with two team points.

In the final event of the night (400-medley relay), Iowa’s quartet of Pawloski, Olesiak, junior Kennedy Gilbertson, and sophomore Anna Pfeiffer swam 3:45.85 to score 30 points for the Hawkeyes.

The Hawkeyes enter Friday’s preliminary events with a team score of 92 points.

Friday’s events include the 100 fly, 400 IM, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back, 3-meter diving, and 200-free relay. Competition begins at 10 am (CT).
