DES MOINES, Iowa – University of Iowa track and field continued competition at the Drake Relays on Friday. The Hawkeyes also closed out the Kip Janvrin Open hosted by Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa.
Making her Drake Relays debut, freshman Ali Frandsen set a lifetime best of 14.11 in the women’s 100-meter hurdles to take 18th place. That mark took 0.51 seconds off her personal record.
Frandsen followed that performance up with a 12th-place race in the women’s 400-meter hurdles (1:02.24).
Sophomore Gabby Cortez took seventh (2:11.14) and senior Clare Pitcher took eighth (2:11.20) in the women’s 800 meters at Drake.
Sophomore Lily Johannes set a women’s 800-meter personal best at the Kip Janvrin, racing 2:18.29 to take third place. Freshman Ava Rush ran 2:25.40 in the same event, finishing within one second of her own personal record.
Junior Martin Strong took third in the men’s 800 meters at the Kip Janvrin, finishing in 1:54.37.
