COLUMBUS, Ohio – University of Iowa swimming and diving sophomore Olivia Swalley placed 12th in the 400 IM on day three of the Big Ten Championships on Friday inside the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.
“Throughout the entire day, our swimmers and divers had great performances," Iowa head coach Nathan Mundt said. “We had multiple lifetime best performances in the preliminary session, which means that we were prepared to perform. It was exciting to have Olivia Swalley come back and swim faster at finals in the 400 IM. Overall, it was a great day for the Hawkeyes.”
Swalley swam 4:11.03 in the morning session of the 400 IM and advanced to the B final of the event. Returning in the night session, the sophomore from Johnston, Iowa, earned 12th place with a time of 4:10.91 in the finals. Swalley holds the best finish among Iowa swimmers and divers so far this weekend.
Collectively, Iowa finished the day with seven personal records and one season best. Freshman Rachel Dildine collected Iowa’s best time in the 100 butterfly with a personal record of 54.36 to move herself up to 9th all-time at Iowa.
The Hawkeye’s 400-medley relay collected a personal best as well. Senior Annie Galvin, Swalley, Dildine, and freshman Nora Kemp came together with a time of 3:40.17, bettering their previous time by over three seconds.
