The Iowa Dance Team is a competitive program that is made up of the best overall dancers at the University of Iowa. This team performs at football, volleyball, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, wrestling, and other athletic department events. As an Iowa Dance Team member, you are a representative not only of the athletic teams you support, but the University of Iowa on the competitive national stage. You are the most visible ambassadors of the athletic department and you are held to the highest standard whether you are on the court, field, or nationals floor.
The Iowa Dance Team is a proud part of the Iowa Spirit Squad along with the Iowa Cheerleaders and Herky the Hawk. The tradition of the Iowa Spirit Squads is carried on by over 50 dedicated student-athletes who devote 15-20 hours every week to practices, games, special appearances, camps, and competitions. Like all student-athletes at the University of Iowa, Iowa Dance Team members must maintain high academic standards and carry a full credit load in order to participate.
Because of these responsibilities, we are looking for skilled, talented athletes who are well-rounded students and embrace the ability to be coached. Our team members come from all over the nation and have very diverse dance backgrounds. We perform pom, jazz, and hip hop routines throughout the year. Imagine performing in front of 70,000 people inside Kinnick Stadium, or breaking attendance records at Carver-Hawkeye Arena for the nation’s top wrestling program! The ultimate goal each season for the Iowa Dance Team is to reach our potential on the national stage. The Iowa Dance Team has placed in the top ten in at least one division at UDA College Nationals for the last 14 seasons.
Being a member of the dance team comes with many exciting opportunities, but it is also a major commitment and requires an extraordinary work ethic. Please be sure to thoroughly review the FAQs and the time commitment required to be a successful member of our program.
