Showalter Earns NSCAA All-Region Honor

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa senior Morgan Showalter has been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division I All-Great Lakes Region Third Team.

Showalter moved from the midfield to defense for her senior season and started all 20 matches. She became Iowa’s all-time assists leader against Southeast Missouri State (Aug. 21) and ended her career with 27 assists. Showalter tallied nine assists in 2011, tying for the most in a single season in school history. The Cedar Rapids, Iowa, native was also named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 31.

Showalter started every match in her four-year career (81 matches) and recorded 14 goals and 27 assists.

Showalter helped lead the Hawkeyes to the best season in school history at 13-4-3 overall. Iowa’s tie for fifth place in the final league standings is the second-highest finish in school history and the No. 6 seed in the Big Ten Tournament is also the second-best seed for a Hawkeye team. Showalter and the Hawkeyes set or equaled a total of nine school records in 2011.
