Levy Wins 600 Meters at Meyo Invite Opener

Junior Caleb Levy won the men’s 600 meters at the Meyo Invitational.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – University of Iowa track and field junior Caleb Levy won the men’s 600 meters on Friday evening at the Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Indiana. 

Levy claimed the top spot in the men’s 600 meters with a personal-best 1:17.05. David Akhalu, Derek Leicht, and Terrick Johnson followed close behind, as the Hawkeyes claimed four of the top five spots. Redshirt freshman Jackson Johannes rounded out the top 10 with a personal best of 1:20.73.

Senior Gabby Cortez led the way for the Hawkeyes on the women’s side as the top collegiate finisher. Cortez clocked a personal-best 1:27.89, which ranks third all-time at Iowa. Freshman Caila Lyons took the fifth-place spot in 1:30.59, while junior Princess Uche crossed the line in 1:31.85. Rounding out the top ten was freshman Grace Boleyn. 

The women’s distance medley relay team of Rosemary Arthur, Leanna Lewis, Clare Kelly, and Julia Gehl posted an 11:27.97 finish to move into the program’s all-time list. The group is 10th in school history.

To close out day one of competition, senior Rowan Boulter recorded a lifetime-best 17:15.17 in the women’s 5,000 meters.

The Hawkeyes secured five personal bests and made two updates to the all-time list. 

Up Next: Action resumes at the Meyo Invite at 9:00 a.m. (CT) on Saturday morning with the men’s 3,000 meters.
