IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa softball Gold team defeated the Grey squad, 7-1, in the opener of the best-of-three Grey-Gold World Series.
Junior Kayla Massey started for Gold and limited the Grey team to one run (unearned) on four hits. She also enjoyed a big day at the plate, tallying three hits.
Sammi Gyerman, Mallorree Grove, Brianna Luna, Bradi Wall and Tor Hawley also recorded hits for the Gold squad.
Senior Sam Valentine scored the Grey team’s lone run. Senior Chelsea Lyon suffered the loss on the mound.
The two teams continue action today at 4:15 p.m. at Pearl Field with game two. The final contest will begin Saturday at 12:30. Both games are free and open to the public.
