Former Iowa Football Stars Attending I-Cubs Exhibition

March 30, 2006

IOWA CITY – Former University of Iowa football stars Chad Greenway and Ed Hinkel will make a special appearance at Principal Park on Tuesday, April 4, before the Hawkeye baseball team takes on the Iowa Cubs, AAA affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, in an exhibition game at 7:05 p.m.

“We’re very excited to have these guys joining us for the exhibition game,” said Iowa Cubs President and General Manager Sam Bernabe. “They had great careers at Iowa and are tremendous ambassadors for the University of Iowa.”

Greenway and Hinkel will sign autographs at Principal Park from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and then will throw out the ceremonial first pitches before the Iowa Cubs meet the Iowa Hawkeyes at 7:05 p.m. Fans will be allowed one autograph per player at a time but may get back in line if they wish to obtain an additional autograph.

Ticket prices for adults are $10 for club box seats, $8 for field box seats and reserved grandstand seats, and $6 for general admission. Ticket prices for children (13-under) are $10 for club box seats, $8 for field box seats, $6 for reserved grandstand seats, and $4 for general admission. Tickets may be purchased by calling 515-243-6111 or 800-GO-I-CUBS or online at www.iowacubs.com.

Greenway was an all-Big Ten selection by the media and coaches, and was named the second best outside linebacker in the country by The Sporting News. He was named Iowa’s Co-Defensive MVP in 2005. He is expected to be selected in the first round of the 2006 National Football League draft in April.

Hinkel was named Iowa’s Co-Offensive Player of the Year in 2005 despite missing three games with a broken arm. He led the Hawks in catches and touchdowns in 2004. Hinkel tied a school record and set a Kinnick Stadium record with four touchdown catches on Senior Day against Minnesota on November 19, 2005. He was named Honorable Mention all-Big Ten after the season.
