Reasland Named to StarHawk Squad

April 3, 2004

A pitcher on the University of Iowa baseball team, Aaron Reasland, a sophomore from Lisbon, Iowa, has been added to the McLeodUSA StarHawks.

A red-shirt in 2002, Reasland appeared in nine games in 2003, all in relief. He pitched one scoreless inning in his first career appearance, a combined 13-0 shutout of Long Island. He also struck out a career-high three batters in one inning at Bethune Cookman.

“He is constantly giving back to others, spending a lot of his free time helping the American Diabetes Association and talking to young kids who suffer from the same health issues Aaron has overcome. He won’t let anything get in his way.”

“Aaron is a very unselfish individual who has an inner drive to be successful in all phases of his life,” said UI Head Coach Jack Dahm. “He is a great selection to be this week’s StarHawk.

“He is constantly giving back to others, spending a lot of his free time helping the American Diabetes Association and talking to young kids who suffer from the same health issues Aaron has overcome. He won’t let anything get in his way.”

Reasland is majoring in science education/environmental science and is a solid student. His coach praises Reasland for his commitment to excel academically, athletically, socially and spiritually. “Aaron is a true StarHawk and a great example to all of us,” Dahm said.

The StarHawks program is an initiative funded in part by McLeodUSA, a leading telecommunications company with corporate headquarters in Cedar Rapids and a long-time member of the UI’s Partners in Excellence corporate sponsorship program. The StarHawks team is a collection of student-athletes at the University of Iowa who truly represent the very best the intercollegiate athletics program at the UI has to offer. StarHawks typically excel athletically and academically, and also are active in community or leadership activities.
