THIS WEEK

The Hawkeyes head to Lincoln, Nebraska, this weekend for the Big Ten Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Competition begins on Friday and continues through Sunday.

2026 NEWS

  • The Hawkeyes concluded their regular season with three titles at the Cyclone Twilight.
  • Sprinter Darwin Jimenez accounted for two of the event wins, picking up the 100-meter title in 10.16. He also won the 200-meter race in a lifetime best of 20.69. Jimenez was joined by Olaolu Olatunde and Jordan Gross in the 100 meters. Olatunde (10.19) and Gross (10.27) ran wind-aided times that rounded out the top three of the prelims after Jimenez set the tone with the program’s third-fastest time of 10.11. In the 200 meters Jimenez (20.69) and Gross (20.69) also set personal bests.
  • Arianna Williams claimed the women’s 400-meter title, racing a new best of 53.85.
  • In the hurdles, Iowa had runner-up finishes from Isabel Evans and Blake Nyenati. Evans set two personal records, beginning with her 13.97 effort in the prelims of the women's 100-meter hurdles and finishing second later in 13.96. Nyenati ran a season-best 13.76 in the prelims of the men’s 110-meter edition, before closing the night in second in 13.83.
  • Caleb Levy led the men in the 800 meters with a fourth-place finish of 1:48.03 ranking ninth on Iowa’s all-time list. Evan Osler ran 2:00.35 for an update to his lifetime best. On the women’s side, Caila Lyons finished third in 2:06.29, while Lily Johannes went 2:12.86 to secure a pair of personal records.
  • Iowa combined to win six titles at the Musco Twilight and Desert Heat Classic.
  • In the 4x100 relays, Darwin Jimenez, Jordan Gross, Jaylin Holmes and Kalen Walker tied the school record with a second-place finish of 38.64 in the men’s relay. The women’s 4x100 quartet of Jailya Ash, Alexandria Edison, Alivia Williams and Holly Duax matched Iowa’s third-fastest time of 44.04 to place fourth.
  • At the Desert Heat Classic, David Akhalu and the men’s 4x400 relay were event winners. Akhalu ran a lifetime best of 45.05 to win the 400-meter title and move to fourth in school history. 
  • Tyrese Miller, Landon Fontenot, Prior Ochonogor and Terrick Johnson teamed up to speed to a 3:06.35 finish.  

LAST TIME OUT

The Hawkeyes wrapped up the regular season with three event titles at the Cyclone Twilight. Darwin Jimenez led the Hawkeyes with victories in both the 100 and 200 meters, recording the third-fastest time in program history during the 100-meter prelims and posting a lifetime-best 20.69 in the 200. Arianna Williams added a win in the women’s 400 meters with a personal-best 53.85. Overall, the Hawkeyes picked up 13 personal bests, including Olaolu Olatunde and Jordan Gross, who both posted top finishes and personal-best efforts in the 100 and 200 meters. In the hurdles, Isabel Evans and Blake Nyenati each finished runner-up after recording personal and season-best times, respectively. Caleb Levy moved to ninth on Iowa’s all-time 800-meter list with a 1:48.03 finish.

RELAY MOMENTUM

Two of Iowa’s relays are ranked in the top 15 heading into the Big Ten Outdoor Championship. The men’s 4x100 rose to No. 5 in the NCAA after its 38.64 at the Desert Heat Cassic on May 2. Darwin Jimenez, Jordan Gross, Jaylin Holmes and Kalen Walker grouped up for the first time this season to tie Iowa’s school record. On the women’s side, the 4x400 quartet of Princess Uche, Damaris Mutunga, Alivia Williams and Chioma Nwachukwu raced 3:29.33 at the Tom Jones Memorial and are currently ranked No. 13 in the NCAA.

LETTING IT FLY

Iowa throwers have accounted for five record book adjustments this season. Since opening at the Jim Duncan Invite, Ryan Johnson has reset the program best in the men’s hammer throw twice. Along with that, he has been named the B1G Field Athlete of the Week on two occasions. Newcomer Tate Joens quickly made his mark in Iowa’s history books, climbing to 4th all time at the Big Red Classic. Along with Johnson and Joens, Iowa is poised to have four hammer throw entries at the NCAA First Rounds, including Austin Busch and Sean Smith. At the Musco Twilight, Bryce Ruland fired the discus a career-best 58.02 meters to move into 8th all-time at Iowa. On the women’s side, Peyton Wilson and Josephine Flynt hold top-10 marks in the hammer throw. The duo surpassed the 60-meter mark for the first time in their careers at the Musco Twilight on May 1. Wilson ranks fifth at Iowa at 60.95 meters, while Flynt is sixth at 60.79. Both Wilson and Flynt are within the top 30 of the West Region.

B1G HONORS

Ryan Johnson was the Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week twice during the month of April. The junior thrower won back-to-back hammer throw competitions at the Jim Duncan Invite and Big Red Classic. He updated his school record and currently ranks No. 2 in the NCAA with a best of 77.64 meters. Two more Hawkeyes were named Big Ten Athletes of the Week on March 25. Emmanuel Njoku's 7.95-meter jump led the nation at the time. He won the title at the UCF Black & Gold Invite to open outdoor season. Prior Ochonogor kicked off his outdoor campaign with a title in the 400-meter hurdles. Ochonogor's time of 50.20 led the nation after opening week. He moved to 7th on Iowa's all-time list.

2025 B1G OUTDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

At the 2025 Big Ten Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Kalen Walker became an individual champion for the first time in his career, winning the 100 meters in 10.17 and collecting 10 team points. The Iowa men placed seventh overall with 59 points. The women scored 47 points and finished in eighth place. The 4x400-meter relays teams each earned silver medals with the women’s quartet of Alivia Williams, Damaris Mutunga, Olicia Lucas and Chioma Nwachukwu posting the program’s fourth-fastest time of 3:31.54. The team of Landon Fontenot, Tyrese Miller, Terrick Johnson and Zidane Brown wrapped up the final in 3:04.63. 

IN THE RANKINGS

Then men's team moved up another spot to No. 17 in the nation in this week's rankings. It is the highest the team has been ranked during the outdoor season. The men hold the top spot in the Midwest Region.
